What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help sites remember your preferences, keep you signed in, and measure how pages are used.

Cookies we use

These are required for the site to work. You can't turn them off.

  • Session cookie — keeps you signed in as you move between pages.
  • CSRF token — a security cookie that prevents form-submission attacks.
  • Consent preference — stores your choice from the cookie banner so we don't ask again.

Analytics cookies (optional)

Help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it.

  • Google Analytics (_ga, _gid) — measures page views, traffic sources, and how long people stay. Data is aggregated; we don't use it to identify individuals.

Advertising cookies (optional)

Used to measure whether our Google Ads campaigns are effective.

  • Google Ads (_gcl_*, IDE, NID) — matches a click on one of our ads to an enquiry or sign-up, so we know which campaigns to keep running. These cookies may be set by Google's domain rather than ours.

How to change your choice

When you first visit, a small banner asks whether you accept or reject optional cookies. You can change your choice at any time by:

  1. Clearing cookies for thecarefinder.co.uk in your browser settings, then reloading the page — the banner will appear again.
  2. Using your browser's "Do Not Track" or cookie-blocking extensions, which we respect by keeping optional cookies off.

If you reject optional cookies, the site still works as normal — you just won't count towards our analytics, and we won't be able to measure whether an ad led to your enquiry.

Third-party services

Some features rely on external services that may set their own cookies:

  • Google Maps — for location search and map display.
  • Cloudflare — security and performance (essential for the site to load).
  • Botpress — support chat widget.
